Background

What's an Agency like?

Have you ever wanted to work at a design agency but don't really know what it would be like, well do I have a game for you.

Welcome to the Agency Agency.

How to Prepare for an Agency

I know when I get into the work world, I am going to need to be ready to get things done fast and well. Design games are a great way for designers to polish their skills while having fun, but I couldn't find anything that would help me with this.

The Games of Design

How do games specific to design turn design skill and knowledge into a playable game.

Key Takeaways

  • The game needs to test skills apart of design.
  • There needs to be a theme.
  • Needs to feel like your learning something.

Design Process

Using my extensive knowledge and assumptions about working in an agency, I needed to create the world this game would be in. I started with recognizing the stressors that I think are apart of an agency as a designer. This includes lots of emails, a younger male boss with an attitude, random project briefs, and endless ways of exporting a file.

The Agency Agency Launches

The Agency Agency has finally launched, lets take a look and what this game provides...

Beginning the brief

Every session starts with the brief. You get the client ask, the tone of the Agency Agency, and just enough context before the clock starts running.

Clicking and dragging

Assets live in the sidebar until you pull them onto the workstation. Drag images, shapes, and text onto the canvas and move them around like a real design software.

Checklist

The checklist keeps the brief honest. As you place work and hit requirements, you tick things off so you know what still needs to get done before you can export.

Layers panel

Everything you drop on the board shows up in layers. Drag pieces forward or backward so the design stacks the way you want.

Time and stress

The timer and stress meter turn the experienceinto a real agency crunch time. As time runs out, the software starts to shake and the pressure becomes real.

Export options

Export is the final step. Pick the right file format and color profile or the deliverable gets rejected. There are so many options...

What I would do next time

Ai for big steps, not little nudges

The best way to work with Ai tools is to make big leaps. Making little changes takes way more time and its worth more doing on your own.

I am the creator, Ai is the assistant

Throughout this project, there were lots of moments where tools would want to take creative control. Once you give that up, you lose the project. I would have a stronger stance from the start of what the tools are going to do for me.

Thanks for looking at this my portfolio. If you are able to, I would love some feedback on how I can improve this case study. You can enter below or shoot me an email at kgfranks2003@gmail.com
